Post Op Day 2

By Jess

Phew, glad to be home!  Spent two nights in hospital as the first night was pretty rough with pain and shortness of breath.  I had a great anaesthetist who asked me what drugs I wanted, so I made sure he gave me some Zoffran before I woke up in recovery.  It did the trick and I have not had one bit of nausea!  Also had an anti-nausea patch put behind my ear.  My nurses were also lovely and the hospital is like a hotel, couldn’t have stayed anywhere nicer!

I feel like I’m doing incredibly well.  Post op I couldn’t lift my leg off/on the bed by myself, and today I can get around with no problems.  I have been having a cocktail of drugs including Oxynorm, Codeine and Voltaren so I’m not sure if I ‘actually’ am doing well or if the pain is covered up by the drugs.  Don’t want to be too optimistic at this stage.

I spoke to Mr R yesterday and this morning.  My labrum was pretty wasted, thin and calcified.  He tried to do a repair but there was no repairable labrum left so had to remove it along with quite a lot of damage to the femoral head/neck.

I managed to get two photos of me in traction, but no action shots unfortunately lol…I will get the scope pics when I see Mr R for my post op check in two weeks.

I am frustratingly tired.  Every time I try to read or watch tv I fall asleep so looks like I’ll have no choice but to rest up :-)

Thank you all again for your kind words!

Hi Jess,

Glad the surgery is over and you are home!! I am so curious about the damage to the femoral head/neck. Did he then just re-shape? I wonder how close the damage was to him having to decide whether to do a THR.

Let those meds keep you happy. Rest up and please keep the updates to us coming.

Fern

Hey Jess! OMG, the pics in traction are freaking me out!! What exactly did he find? Did he get all the FAI?

I bet you’re pleased they covered your pubes for the photos!!! Let me know when you want a visitor:D

Hey Susie,
The traction isn’t as bad as it looks. I have no lasting effects, no numbness or anything :-) Plus you’ve already done it 3 times!
I think he said there was significant damage to the head/neck area and he shaved that off with a motorised burr…not sure if he took any of the acetabulum down as he didn’t do the repair. More questions for me to ask, but I will get my op report in a couple of weeks :-) Surprisingly I think I feel better after this op than I did after my first!

LOL CLAIRE! Only YOU would say that! The have to put a post between your legs to stop you from slipping down the table when they distract the hip.
Can come over whenever you like, I’m feeling great :-)

This reinforces the issue of getting waxed before surgery!!! When I had successful surgeries,I felt better right away, obviously there was a lot of post-op pain but there was a huge difference between the failed and successful surgeries that I noticed right away.

Glad to hear you are home and recovering! Best wishes to you. You may already know this trick, but if you hook your post-op foot with your good leg foot you can use it to put it on bed, get in car, etc. It’s great, haha. Works everytime!
