12 Days To Go
ByLess than two weeks to go! I got my jammies and the mat for the shower…though that might prove useless as it covers the drain and the shower fills with water lol. Hopefully our new lounge suite will be delivered tomorrow or early next week as I think I will be spending a couple of nights sleeping downstairs and the new one is bigger than the one we have now.
I am starting to get all those “what if” questions floating in my head and trying to shoo them away, it is just the nerves talking. I keep telling myself that this WILL work and I WILL be recovered by Christmas. I need to get back to exercising regularly, competing and lose 10kg again! I have done it before so I KNOW I can do it again, I WILL fit back into my skinny clothes! Just too bad it won’t be in time for summer!
Would love for any readers in NZ who’ve had a scope for FAI and labral tear to get in touch with me. I know our post op protocols are quite different to the US. As this procedure is still very new here I only know one person who’s had the same op as I’m to have and she now needs a THR due to rapidly retreating cartilage (from good to none in 7 months). Although it was not caused by the surgery I’d just really like to hear some GOOD news from someone close to home who’s had the scope, not open surgery! I know you are out there…Anyone??
On a positive note, I had some pre-op bloods taken to check my liver enzymes and cholesterol among other things. I have inherited high cholesterol from my Dad so have this checked regularly and it has dropped considerably since I had it tested last year which is fantastic, even got a note from the nurse saying how impressed she was lol I haven’t heard back about the other tests, so no news is good news
Will have a base level this time to compare to post op if I have any more trouble with the liver/nausea, though will be avoiding Paracetamol this time around!
The latest on ACC. The surgeon won’t write a medical certificate until after the op, so ACC cannot do anything further as far as paperwork goes. I will not have a stand-down period this time, so the boss is just going to love it when she gets pages of stuff to fill out and have to send back within the week. I’d better stock her up on her happy drug…caffeine.

Good Luck Jessica!! Definately shoo the nerves away, but I did the same thing. You will feel so relieved just to be doing something proactive. Just take it really, really easy the first few weeks not to compromise anything, but keep moving! I started my pt the next day and did it every single day without fail. Honestly, it helped relieve the pain because the stiffness is the worst. Also, I kept ice and compression constantly and that helped a lot too.
And keep in mind that it is not an overnight fix. Don’t let the achiness and sharp pains, popping, etc freak you out, it’s normal and it will get better. Recovery is baby steps, but when you get a chance to look back over time, you can see the progress and that is uplifting.
If I can “help” in any way let me know:)

Thanks for the good wishes and reassurance Vanessa. I am so looking forward to having this done so I can start the new year afresh! I wish I had control over the nervousness but I guess that will be gone when I wake up postop lol
